Saxmundham is a small market town that has grown a great deal recently, with new housing on the Leiston side and along the Ipswich Road. Those houses have heating pipes in the screed and plastic supply pipes, and when they leak it is usually under the floor. The older houses on High Street and Church Street are brick, timber and plumbing from several eras.
The water in Saxmundham comes from Anglian Water. Their pipe stops at the boundary stop tap and the rest is yours, so a leak under the front garden or drive is your repair, and the first sign is often a bill that has jumped. Charlie's meter test takes 10 minutes and tells you whether that is what is happening.

The water meter is read with every outlet shut and the heating is pressure tested. One will show the loss, and that is the only system he then traces.

Thermal imaging locates the area. Acoustic listening on a live pipe, or tracer gas on a drained heating circuit, fixes the leak to inches. Charlie marks it and photographs the evidence.
The camera reads temperature at the surface, so a heating loop in a new build floor or a wet patch behind a Victorian wall shows up without removing anything. It is the first tool out of the van.
A supply pipe under a drive or lawn leaks with a hiss the ground microphone can follow. Charlie moves along the line of the pipe and the loudest reading marks the break.
With the heating drained there is nothing to listen for, so a safe hydrogen mix is pumped into the pipes. It rises through screed, tiles or boards at the leak and a detector picks it up.
The closest jobs on the books are in Kelsale and Yoxford, right on the edge of town, with Halesworth and Blything and Bungay and Wainford a little further north. On the coast we have found a leak in the Southwold, Wrentham and Wangford and Westleton ward, and down the A12 we have traced leaks in Deben, Carlford and Fynn Valley and around Martlesham and Purdis Farm.
Leiston and Aldeburgh are east by the sea, Framlingham is west through Kelsale, and Wickham Market and Halesworth sit either side along the A12. Charlie groups these so one trip serves several.
Where a buildings policy includes trace and access, the cost of finding the leak and of the opening up and making good needed to fix it is normally met. Charlie's report gives the claims handler the method, the images, the readings and the exact position, and it is accepted as the evidence for the claim.
