He asks what you have seen, whether the boiler drops pressure and whether the meter moves overnight. That tells him which system to focus on and what to bring.

Rochford has a small market town centre with older cottages and Victorian terraces around the square, then 1960s and 1970s estates stretching out to Ashingdon and the airport. Great Wakering and Barling, to the east, are village housing on flat marsh ground where supply pipes run long distances under gardens.
Essex and Suffolk Water supplies Rochford. Haverhill is roughly 55 miles away, but Rochford, Hockley, Rayleigh and Southend are booked as one run, so Charlie is nearby most weeks. The ground east of town is heavy clay over marsh, which moves with the seasons and strains buried joints.

2
Meter and heating checks, then a thermal scan of every floor and wall. In a 1970s Rochford house the camera shows the heating pipe routes through the screed.
3
Tracer gas on the heating or a ground microphone on the supply pipe. Charlie marks the spot to a few inches. The photographs and the report follow for your plumber or insurer.
A heating pipe in a solid floor shows as a warm line and a leak as a wider warm area. In an older cottage the camera finds the cold patch behind plaster where a pipe is weeping.
Supply pipe leaks under the long gardens in Great Wakering and Barling are found by listening along the route. The sound peaks over the break and that is where Charlie marks it.
The drained heating system is filled with hydrogen and nitrogen. The gas leaves at the fault and surfaces through tile or carpet, where the sensor picks it up. One tile comes up, not a floor.
In SS4 we have worked in Hawkwell East, Hawkwell West and Hockley and Ashingdon, and in SS5 in Hockley itself and Downhall and Rawreth. South of the airport there have been jobs in Blenheim Park, Belfairs and Chalkwell, and in Milton on the Westcliff side. The Hawkwell and Ashingdon jobs included heating pipes in solid floors and a supply pipe under a long garden.
Ashingdon, Hawkwell, Canewdon, Great Wakering, Barling, Stambridge and Paglesham are all on the Rochford run. Hockley and Rayleigh are a few minutes west, and Southend, Shoeburyness and Leigh-on-Sea are across the airport.
If your policy includes trace and access, the cost of finding the leak and restoring what was opened is covered. Charlie's report gives your insurer the method, the thermal and photographic evidence and the leak position on a plan. Rochford customers have used it to get a claim approved without a second survey.
Call Charlie on 07897 020 680 and ask when he is next in SS4.
