Tell Charlie about the house
A listed house near the Abbey and a new build at Silfield need different equipment. Charlie asks about floors, heating type and what you have noticed.
Leak detection in Wymondham
Charlie has traced leaks in Central Wymondham this year and out at Bunwell and Hingham in the same NR18 district. Timber framed or brand new, the house gets the same search.

A Wymondham visit is usually booked within 24 to 48 hours. The centre is medieval and Georgian, with timber framed houses around the Market Cross and Victorian terraces on the roads out.
The south of the town is different. Silfield, Carpenters Barn and the estates off Tuttles Lane have gone up since the 1990s, with screed floors, plastic pipework and a fair amount of underfloor heating. Anglian Water supplies the whole town. A leak in the old centre and a leak in the new estates behave differently.

The mains, the heating and any underfloor loops are isolated and tested in turn. The one that will not hold pressure, or that keeps the meter turning, is the one he follows.
3
Charlie follows the circuit with the thermal camera, the microphone or tracer gas, marks the leak and photographs the evidence, then writes it up for you.
On the newer estates the camera shows underfloor loops in the screed once the heating has been on for an hour, with the leak as a bright spread off the line. In a timber framed house it finds the warm route of a pipe behind old plaster.
A supply pipe under a Wymondham drive or along a terrace's shared passage is found by sound. Charlie places the ground microphone along the route and follows the noise of escaping water to its loudest point.
A heating pipe in a solid floor with no access from below is traced with gas. The circuit is drained, charged with a hydrogen and nitrogen mix and the floor swept with the detector, which peaks over the break.
The NR18 district has had jobs in Central Wymondham, at Bunwell and in the Hingham and Deopham ward, the most recent in the summer. Next door in NR17, Attleborough's Burgh and Haverscroft and Queens and Besthorpe wards have come up several times. North, the Norwich fringe has produced work in Cringleford and Eaton in NR4 and in Hellesdon in NR6. South, NR16 has brought call-outs to Bressingham and Burston.
Hethersett, Attleborough, Spooner Row, Wicklewood, Morley and Mulbarton are covered from Wymondham on the same visit. Hingham, Thorpe St Andrew and Thetford have their own pages. The rest of Norfolk is on the county page.
A leak that has lifted a floor in a new build or soaked the plaster of a timber framed house usually becomes a claim. Trace and access cover pays for finding the leak and for making good the opening, apart from the repair. Charlie's report gives the insurer the systems tested, the method and the marked location with photographs.
Call Charlie on 07897 020 680 at any hour; if the leak cannot be found, the survey is free.
